The Melplash Show takes over the West Bay showground on Thursday 26 August 2027, the last Thursday before the August bank holiday. It bills itself as one of the South West’s premier agricultural exhibitions, and the first show was held in 1847, so the day carries a good deal of local tradition alongside the livestock.
The show has been held on its present ground on West Bay Road since 1948. Exhibits include livestock, horses, homecrafts and horticulture, and the organisers say visitors can watch the judging of the animals. More than 400 trade stands sell everything from locally produced food to tractors.
A Discover Farming marquee runs hands-on “Farm to Food” activities for children of all ages, aimed at families who want to learn about food production and farming.
