West Lulworth

Village by Lulworth Cove with Durdle Door a mile along the coast

West Lulworth sits just inland from Lulworth Cove, on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The cove is a bay enclosed almost in a circle, and it is a five-minute stroll from the village car park. Parking can be exceptionally busy at peak times, so arrive early. The Lulworth Cove page covers the beach itself. Stair Hole, a geological formation, is just west of the cove.

Durdle Door lies a mile west along the coast from the cove. The walk down to the arch and its shingle beach is steep, and the area is prone to coastal erosion. Storms can change beach access, so read the Durdle Door page and the Lulworth Estate’s own notice before you set out.

East of the cove is a military training area. The Lulworth Range Walks and Tyneham village are open to the public most weekends, with a list of exceptions published each year. The Tyneham village gate opens in the morning when no military activity is taking place and closes at dusk. Check the gov.uk firing times before you drive over.

There is no railway station in the village. The nearest rail access is Wool. The village car park has a visitor centre and a toilet complex.
