Dairy Cottages - Big Barn

Big Barn is a barn conversion, completed in 2018 from a building that dates to 1680, in the hamlet of Wigbeth at Horton, near Verwood and the Dorset and Hampshire border. It sleeps eight in four bedrooms, each with its own en-suite shower room and WC.

The living area is open plan under a full-height vaulted ceiling, with bi-fold doors to the garden and a fireplace holding a wood burner (the first basket of wood is included, October to May). The kitchen has a double electric oven, an induction hob, an American-style fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave, a bean-to-cup coffee machine and a washer/dryer. The TV is internet-only, with terrestrial channels through pre-loaded apps. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor, a double and a king-size.

A staircase from the lounge reaches a mezzanine snug with a desk, and beyond it a super-king-size zip-and-link bedroom with a Juliet balcony. A spiral staircase leads to a king-size bedroom under a vaulted ceiling. The garden is fully enclosed, with a patio, furniture, an artificial lawn and an outdoor kitchen with two propane plancha grills (the owners supply the gas). There is also a shared paddock.

Off-road parking is for up to three cars. An electric vehicle charging point is on site, with additional charges paid directly to the owner. Two dogs are allowed, and additional charges may apply. Stag and hen parties are not permitted. The barn is not suitable for wheeled mobility aids. The shop is 3 miles away and the pub 2.5 miles. It suits two families, or a group of friends, sharing a large house for eight.
