Rose Farm

Rose Farm is a detached Dorset longhouse in Fifehead Neville, a hamlet near Sturminster Newton. It stands on a working organic farm with six acres of grounds, and sleeps ten. The bedrooms are a super-king, a king and three doubles, and two single beds can be set up on the large landing on request.

The kitchen and dining room has a traditional AGA, an electric oven and a dishwasher, and the utility room holds a washing machine, a tumble dryer and an American-style fridge and freezer. A ground-floor games room has table tennis. The snug has a wood burner and a TV with DVD, and the lounge has an inglenook fireplace with an open fire; logs are included. A travel cot and highchair are available. A welcome pack of local produce, farm eggs and home-made marmalade is left for arrivals.

The age of the house shows. There are two steps into the kitchen and dining room and a small set of steps to the utility room. The king-size bedroom is up winding stairs under the eaves, and there are beams and areas of restricted head height. Outside, the area behind the house is fully enclosed, with a patio, garden furniture and a gas barbecue. The wider grounds include a large unenclosed pond, so children must be supervised at all times. Fireworks and drones are not permitted because of the livestock and horses, and stabling is available on request. The house stands beside the owners' office and the housekeeper's cottage, and farm and garden staff work in the grounds regularly.

Parking is off-road, for up to eight cars. A shop and pub are 2 miles away and the beach is 19 miles. Dogs are not allowed. It suits two families or a large group who want room to spread out and don't mind sharing the farm with hens, guinea fowl and a peacock.
