2 Oak Tree Cottages

2 Oak Tree Cottages is on the edge of the village of Marshwood, beside a National Trust hill fort with long views over the Vale of Marshwood. The village is near Whitchurch Canonicorum. The cottage sleeps five and has three bedrooms: a king-size, a zip/link king-size that can be set up as twins, and a double whose bed is reached from one side only. Bedroom 2 is reached through bedroom 1. One bathroom has a bath with a shower over, and a ground-floor shower room has a walk-in shower.

Downstairs are a kitchen, a conservatory, a sitting room with a woodburning stove and a snug. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a microwave, a fridge/freezer and a washing machine. Heating is oil-fired central heating. The cottage runs on an organic system, so only eco-friendly products can be used in the kitchen, washing machine and WC. Fuel and power, bed linen and towels are included, and the owner supplies logs and kindling for the first night.

The garden has lawns, a pergola with seating, a barbecue and a decked terrace with furniture. Parking is off-road for one or two small cars. The shop is 4.2 miles away and the pub 1.2 miles. A good-housekeeping bond is payable.

Two well-behaved dogs are welcome, with an extra charge for each per stay. Smoking is not allowed. The age of the building means uneven floors, low ceilings and beams, and stairs steeper than a modern house, which the owner says may not suit the elderly, infirm or young children. It suits a group of adults or a family with older children.
