Bowman's Cottage

Bowman's Cottage is a terraced house on the wide road that runs through Wakeham, a hamlet on the Isle of Portland. The owners have kept the exposed Portland stone walls, the quarry-tiled floor and the sitting-room fireplaces, though the fires are not in use. Downstairs there is a galley-style kitchen, a separate dining room, a sitting room and an outside WC, and the kitchen has a gas oven and hob, a fridge and a washing machine.

The two bedrooms and the bathroom are upstairs, reached by cottage-style stairs. One bedroom is a double and the other a twin. The bathroom has a bath with a shower over, and the owners note restricted headroom there, given as 6 ft 4 in minimum. Gas central heating and WiFi are included, along with fuel, power, bed linen and towels, and a good-housekeeping bond is payable.

Outside, the garden has patio furniture and a summer house. Parking is on the road outside the cottage. Church Ope Cove is a short walk away, but the way down is 150 steep steps, so it is not an easy route for everyone. Easton, close by, has two supermarkets, cafes and independent shops. Neither pets nor smoking are allowed. The cottage suits a couple or a small family who are comfortable with stairs and steep steps.
