Cowslip - Dorset

Cowslip is a yurt for four, four miles from Shaftesbury and six miles from Gillingham, which has a mainline station and supermarkets. The National Trust's Stourhead is 12 miles away, and Longleat, the Haynes Motor Museum and Stonehenge are all within 28 miles. The yurts stand in a secluded field at the back of a former dairy farm and overlook paddocks.

The single room is laid out studio-style, with a double wrought-iron bed and two single day beds in a Victorian style. Lighting and device charging run from the yurt's own electricity supply. A wood-burning stove gives the heat, with logs included, and a one-ring induction hob covers hot drinks and soup. Two folding beds can be arranged directly with the owner.

For anything more substantial you walk to the Old Haybarn, where a private lockable shower room has a walk-in shower, a WC and underfloor heating. The shared kitchen there has an electric oven and hob, a microwave and a fridge and cupboards set aside for you, and the same building has a communal dining and lounge area with toys, games and a TV. Guests also share a games room with table tennis and a pool table.

Outside the yurt are a table with benches, a parasol, a barbecue, a drinking water tap and a fire pit of your own. The wider site, which is fully enclosed, has a play area with wooden equipment, wendy houses and a trampoline. The pub is 1.8 miles away and the shop 3.8 miles. One car can park off the road. CCTV covers the entrance and the outside of the camping grounds. Dogs are not allowed. It suits two couples, or parents with two children, who like to cook on a shared hob.
