Little Berwick Cottage

Little Berwick is a detached thatched cottage in a quiet lane about two miles from the village of Burton Bradstock, with parts dating back to the 17th century. The nearest shop and pub are two miles away, though a farm shop is a short walk down the lane. The cottage has no barbecues, because of the thatch, and mobile signal is patchy or absent, so check your network before booking.

The ground floor has a kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with an inglenook fireplace and a woodburning stove, available during the winter months. The dining table in the sitting room seats eight. The ground floor also has a twin bedroom and a shower room. Upstairs are four more bedrooms: two king-size rooms and two singles, and a bathroom with a bath and a hand-held shower. In all, five bedrooms sleep eight.

A basket of logs for the stove comes with the cottage from October to March; kindling, firelighters and more logs can be bought from the local garage. Heating is by electric radiators, and fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included. There is a dishwasher, a washing machine and a tumble dryer. The garden is enclosed, with a lawn, a patio and furniture, and off-road parking is for three cars only; any extra cars must park in the village, 2.5 miles away.

A step leads into the cottage and two more into the kitchen, so it may not suit anyone with limited mobility. Two small well-behaved dogs are welcome, smoking is not allowed, a good-housekeeping bond is payable, and stays from June to August are a minimum of 7 nights. The cottage suits a large family or a group of friends travelling with dogs who like a quiet lane.
