Plush Cottage
Thatched Hardy-country cottage with four bedrooms, pub under 100 metres
Plush Cottage is a Grade II listed, 18th-century thatched house in the Dorset hamlet of Plush, near Piddletrenthide. Inside are low beams, thick walls and an exposed brick fireplace, and the cottage appears in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles. The Wessex Ridgeway can be reached on foot, and the Brace of Pheasants pub is under 100 metres away.
There are four bedrooms. The original house has three, including a king-size room and a bunk room, plus a family bathroom with a bath. The extension adds a super-king bedroom with a bed bridge, which can be set up as a twin on request, and it has its own shower room and separate access. The kitchen has an Aga, with a small induction hob also available, a Miele fridge-freezer, a dishwasher drawer and dining for six to eight. A Miele washing machine is provided.
There is a living room with a 43-inch TV, and a study and snug with a Bluetooth projector, space to work and WiFi. For young children the cottage supplies a travel cot, highchair, step, stairgates, toys and games.
The garden wraps around the house, with lawns, a patio and seating for eight. A small seasonal stream crosses the garden behind a low barrier, so children and dogs need watching. One well-behaved dog is welcome. The thatch means no smoking and no naked flames within 5 metres, which covers candles, barbecues and fire pits. Parking is off the road for two cars, with an EV charger, and a good-housekeeping bond is payable. The shop is 5.5 miles away. It suits a family or a group of friends who want a walking base with a pub on the doorstep.
