The Old School House

The Old School House is part of a converted Victorian village school in the middle of Piddletrenthide. Leaded windows and original fireplaces have been kept. Downstairs the sitting room has a woodburning stove, and next to the kitchen/diner is a reading room with a second stove. Logs and lighters are not provided, so bring your own. There is also a utility room and a cloakroom.

Three bedrooms upstairs sleep five: a double with an en-suite shower room, a twin and a single, which has a skylight window. The family bathroom has a bath and a separate shower. The kitchen has a gas range cooker, a dishwasher, a microwave and a washing machine, and there are a TV, WiFi and gas central heating. Fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included in the rent, and a cot and high chair are available.

Outside, a walled side garden has a table and chairs, and the front lawn is larger, but only its left-hand part (standing with your back to the road, looking at the house) is for guests and the rest is private. Guests reach the house by the front gate and footpath. Off-road parking takes three cars. The pub is 0.6 miles away and the nearest shop 3.4 miles, so the Dorchester supermarkets, eight miles north, handle the main shop.

Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome, and smoking is not allowed. Cerne Abbas and its giant are a short drive away, and Weymouth is 16 miles. The house suits a family of up to five, or a group of friends with a dog or two, who want woodburning stoves and parking.
