Way's Forge

Way's Forge is a renovated blacksmith's workshop on the main street of Piddlehinton, in the Piddle Valley, near Piddletrenthide. It dates to the 1830s and was run by five generations of the Way family. Stone walls and stout beams remain, and a tin trunk serves as the coffee table.

The ground floor is one open-plan room for the kitchen, dining area and sitting area, heated from underneath, with an electric log burner and a ground-floor cloakroom. Upstairs are two bedrooms, a king-size and a single, and a bathroom with a bath and a shower over. The cottage suits a couple or a small family of up to three. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a full-size fridge/freezer and a washing machine, and there are a TV, a DVD player and WiFi. Fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included in the rent, and a cot is available.

Parking for two cars is to the side. The garden is a small, wildlife-friendly area under trees next to the parking, and it is not enclosed: the wall is low, so dogs must be on a lead, and pets and children need supervising there. Garden furniture is kept under the stairs. The cottage stands beside the road through the village.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome, and smoking is not allowed. The Thimble Inn is a two-minute walk and the nearest shop is two to three miles away. A path opposite the cottage leads to the Millennium Green, which has a playground and a picnic area by the river.
