Sixpenny Cottage

Sixpenny Cottage is a stone-built cottage in the Weymouth village of Upwey, entered by its own door and joined to the owners' own home. Its name comes from a hoard of sixpences from the reign of James I found in the fireplace of the old shepherd's cottage that once stood here. The shower room still shows some of the original stonework.

Downstairs, a large sitting and dining room has French doors to the patio and gardens, and a small galley-style kitchen has another French door out to the garden. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a microwave, a small fridge/freezer and a washing machine, and the sitting room has a television with Freesat and DVD and CD players. A cloakroom with WC and basin is on this floor. WiFi is fitted, though mobile reception in the area is poor. Oil central heating is installed, and fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included.

A flight of steep cottage stairs leads up to the single bedroom, which sleeps 2 guests, has a super king-size bed and looks over the garden and woodland. The bed can be made up as twins if the reservations team is told at least 14 days before arrival. Pillows and duvets are feather, with synthetic ones available on request. A travel cot is available.

Two cars fit in the private parking area, which is down a steep driveway. There are no pets and no smoking. This suits a couple who are happy with steep stairs and a steep drive, and want a patio and garden to step out onto.
