St Gabriels Cottage

St Gabriel's Cottage is a thatched cottage in Chideock, a short distance from the South West Coast Path. It accommodates up to five guests, in three bedrooms: a ground-floor double and two twins. A ground-floor shower room has a walk-in shower, basin, towel rail and WC. The shop is 1.5 miles away and the pub 1.4 miles.

The sitting room has an inglenook fireplace, beams and wood flooring, and the heating is electric storage and wall heating with an electric stove-effect fire. The kitchen/diner has an electric oven, grill and hob, a microwave and a fridge with an ice box. There is no WiFi, and the TV has a built-in DVD player only, with no TV signal, so there is a large selection of DVDs. Fuel, power, bed linen and towels are in the rent.

Check the access before booking. The cottage is reached along a narrow, uneven country lane that may not suit some vehicles. Loading and unloading is from an access lane near the cottage, and the path from it is uneven and may not be suitable for elderly or infirm guests, young children or prams; parking for two cars is a short walk away. The stairs are steep and uneven.

The cottage has private gardens with lawns and garden furniture, with space for children and dogs to run. Two well-behaved dogs are welcome. A good housekeeping bond is payable, and the cottage is no smoking. It suits a family or group who want a quiet, rural stay without screens and can manage the stairs and the walk from the car.
