Standby Generator Bunker

Six guests fit into The Standby Generator Bunker at Ringstead, in three bedrooms, with a wood-burning stove at the heart of the open-plan living space. It stands in the middle of the owner's dairy farm, one field from the shore. The Grade II listed building was part of the wartime radar network at RAF Ringstead; the renovation kept the original concrete walls, and from outside the south face looks as if it has been hit by an explosion.

Around the stove are a kitchen island and breakfast bar and a dining area. Unlimited logs come with the rent, along with a starter pack of kindling and lighters, and so do fuel, power, bed linen and towels. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a microwave, a fridge/freezer, a dishwasher and a washing machine, and there is a TV and WiFi.

The bedrooms are a ground-floor double with an en-suite walk-in shower, a twin, and a ground-floor bunk bed. The ground-floor bathroom has a bath and a walk-in shower with a handheld head. Bi-fold doors lead onto the patio, and the enclosed garden wraps around the building with a lawn and furniture. At the end of the garden, woodland leads to the deserted medieval village of Ringstead and then the sea.

Parking takes four cars. Two well-behaved dogs are welcome but not in the bedrooms or on the furniture, and smoking is not allowed. The shop is 2.3 miles away, the pub 1.6 miles and the beach a mile. Changeover is on Friday; another day may be possible by prior agreement, with check-in at 6pm. The house suits a family of six, and Woodlands Cottage is adjacent if two parties want to book together.
