The Nook - Swanage

The Nook is a Grade II listed former quarryman's cottage dating from 1750, set in the middle of a small terrace in one of the oldest parts of Swanage. It was refurbished in 2019 and keeps a flagstone floor and a fireplace in the lounge. The beach is one mile away, and shops and pubs are within walking distance.

You enter through a small courtyard, enclosed by a low stone wall, with distant views over the Purbeck hills. The galley kitchen has an electric range-style oven and hob. A curtain separates it from a utility area with a washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave and drying rack. The lounge has a wood burner, with the first basket of logs included, a Smart TV and DVD player, wifi and a dining space. Electric radiators heat the cottage.

Narrow, steep, winding stairs lead to the first floor, where a king-size bedroom and a small single bedroom share one bathroom, entered through either bedroom. It has a bath with a hand-held shower and a WC, and there is no stand-up shower because headroom is limited. An optional stair gate can be fitted on the landing.

Low doorways, restricted head height, steep stairs, changes of level and beams run throughout, so the cottage is not suitable for guests with restricted mobility, very tall guests or children under 3. One dog is welcome, and additional charges may apply. Parking is one dedicated roadside space directly outside. Check-in is from 5pm and check-out before 10am. It suits a couple, or three guests, who are happy with beams and stairs and want a base with a dog within walking distance of shops and pubs.
