The Old Portland Courthouse

The Old Portland Courthouse is the original gabled courthouse on the Isle of Portland, a Grade II listed building dating to 1904 that overlooks Chesil Beach. Inside are the original balustrading and wood panelling, a bar that was once the dock, and a magistrate's bench on the upstairs walkway. The kitchen has granite work surfaces and a breakfast bar, and the open-plan living area has a dining area with an antique table that seats twelve, plus a sitting area and a second sitting area upstairs.

Four bedrooms sleep eight. A four-poster double and a twin are on the ground floor, each with an en-suite shower, and a third bedroom, a double, has an en-suite as well. The fourth bedroom is also a double, and a shower room and a ground-floor cloakroom complete the bathrooms. A utility room is reached through the twin bedroom. The house has a washing machine, a tumble dryer, a dishwasher, Sky TV, a music system, books, games and WiFi.

The garden is landscaped and furnished. Parking is on the road, first come first served. There is a step up to the dining area and another to the kitchen, stairs down to one of the bedrooms and steps up to the garden from the twin. Guests must not open the roof windows. The property does not accept children under 14, and neither pets nor smoking are allowed. A good-housekeeping bond is payable. A shop and a pub are ten minutes' walk, and the beach is five. It suits a large group, with no children under 14, gathering for a family occasion or celebration.
