The Transmitter Bunker

The Transmitter Bunker sleeps four in two bedrooms, a twin and a bunk, all on one floor, in Ringstead. It stands in the middle of the owner's dairy farm, two fields from the sea. The building is Grade II listed and was one of two transmitter blocks serving RAF Ringstead in the Second World War, commissioned in early 1941 and decommissioned in 1956, and the renovation kept its original concrete walls.

The open-plan room has a kitchen, a dining area and a sitting area with an open fire. Underfloor heating runs under a polished concrete floor, and the house uses ground source energy. There is a smart TV and WiFi, and the kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a fridge/freezer and a slimline dishwasher; the washing machine is in the plant room. The twin and the bunk bedroom share a shower room with a walk-in shower. Fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included.

The front garden is fenced, with a lawn, a patio and furniture, and there are steps within it. Off-road parking takes four cars. Two well-behaved dogs are allowed but not in the bedrooms or on the furniture, and smoking is not allowed. The nearest shop is 2.2 miles away and the pub 1.6 miles.

Check-in is from 4pm and check-out at 10am, with a Saturday changeover; another day may be possible by prior agreement, with check-in at 6pm. It suits two couples or a family of four who want something out of the ordinary, and it can be combined with Woodlands Cottage, Pitt Cottage and The Standby Generator Bunker.
