Char Cider Barn

Char Cider Barn is an annexe next to the owner's house on a small organic farm with sheep and chickens, at Whitchurch Canonicorum. The building is cob, made with straw and earth from the farm, faced in stone from the old cider barn and roofed with recycled local tiles. It sleeps two. There are no children, though babes in arms are welcome.

The ground floor is one open-plan room with exposed beams and a stone floor. A compact kitchen area has an oven with a ceramic hob, a grill, a microwave and a fridge with a freezer compartment, and an extendable table seats two. The lounge area has a TV/DVD, an exposed brick wall and French doors. There is no washing machine, but the one in the main farmhouse can be used by arrangement with the owner. A shower room with WC is also downstairs.

A handmade spiral staircase climbs to the bedroom, which has a super-king-size bed, a high vaulted ceiling and an en-suite bathroom with a handheld shower. If you prefer twin beds, ask when booking. Parking is private and off-road for one car.

Outside is a private enclosed patio with garden furniture. Barbecues are not permitted at this property. Two dogs are allowed, and additional charges may apply. Footpaths from the farm lead to Charmouth, a 2.5-mile walk. The beach is 2 miles away, a pub within a mile, and a wider choice of pubs, shops and restaurants 2.5 miles. The barn suits a couple who want a farm setting and a footpath to Charmouth.
