The Granary Lodge - Thorncombe

The Granary Lodge is a former stone outbuilding converted into a one-bedroom home for two. It stands beside the owner's house with privacy kept, in farmland less than 1.5 miles from the village of Thorncombe, and has a Chard postal address. Whitchurch Canonicorum is also nearby. The lodge is powered by renewable energy and has underfloor heating.

Private parking is for two cars, and you park in the oak-framed carport before following steps to the front door. Inside, an open-plan room holds a kitchen with an electric oven and hob, a fridge/freezer, a dishwasher and a microwave, a dining suite by the sliding doors and a lounge with sofas facing a Smart TV. A utility cupboard has a washer/dryer. The bedroom has a king-size bed and is close to the shower room with WC.

The sliding doors lead to a glass-fronted balcony with bistro furniture. Steps at one end go down into a fully enclosed garden of lawn and gravel, with a fire pit and picket-style fencing, and views across the owner's land. Two dogs are allowed, and additional charges may apply. You may see the owners' two dogs and four chickens.

The shop and cafe are 1.5 miles away, and the beach is 9 miles. The lodge suits a couple who want a quiet base with a garden, with a car for the coast. Steps lead to the front door and down from the balcony to the garden.
