Fallow

Fallow is a hut for two on the Warmwell House estate in Warmwell, split across three small buildings. A couple of steps lead up to the main hut, which holds a double bed, a table and storage, with a kitchenette. A separate kitchen hut has the gas stove for the kettle, and a private bathroom hut alongside has a gas-powered shower and a composting/camping WC. The hut does not accept children.

Power and water are limited. The lights are solar-powered and should be used sparingly, an extra-large cool box with ice packs is provided, and running water comes from a basin and standpipe and is not for drinking unless boiled. Cooking is on a gas camping stove with utensils supplied. The woodburner comes with logs, kindling and matches, and the bed has goose-down duvets, with towels and bedding provided.

Outside there are Adirondack chairs, garden furniture, a hammock, and a fire bowl with barbecue tools. The 1,000-acre estate gives direct access to footpaths, woodland and heathland, and there is a tennis court by arrangement for guests who bring their own racquets, balls and rubber-soled trainers. For the evenings there are board games, a torch and a Roberts radio, with books and local maps provided. There is parking for one car.

The nearest shop and pub are 1.8 miles away, near Broadmayne. No pets and no smoking are allowed. Fallow can be booked alongside Sika and Warmwell Lodge. It is best for a couple who like cooking outdoors on a fire bowl or gas hob and do not mind solar lighting.
