Jessops Cottage

Jessops Cottage is a detached cottage in Hilfield, a scattered village in open countryside near Cerne Abbas. It sleeps six across three bedrooms on the first floor: two doubles and a bunk bedroom. The only bathroom is downstairs, off the kitchen, with a shower over the bath and a WC.

The lounge has an open fire, a TV and a DVD player, and the open-plan kitchen/diner has a wood burner, and the first basket of logs is included. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, a microwave and a washing machine, while a pantry holds a fridge, a freezer and a tumble dryer. Wi-Fi can be intermittent because of the rural location.

A fully enclosed lawn wraps around the cottage, with garden furniture, a charcoal barbecue and a hammock, and it runs on into an orchard. A shepherd's hut with its own wood burner stands there. Parking is roadside and allocated, for two cars, in a layby opposite the cottage; stepping stones cross the lawn from the front door to reach it.

Two dogs are allowed, though not upstairs, and additional charges may apply. The beach is 11 miles away and the nearest pub and shop are 4 miles, so you will be driving for most things. The cottage suits a family or a group of up to six who want a garden and an orchard.
