Old Cross Cottage

Old Cross Cottage is a thatched cottage in the village of Whitchurch Canonicorum, 2.4 miles from Charmouth. The sitting room and the snug each have a woodburning stove, and the cottage has exposed beams and window seats. Oil central heating is fitted, and fuel, power, bed linen and towels are included in the rent. Logs are supplied for October to March bookings only.

Four bedrooms sleep eight: a double, a twin, and a double with an adjoining single room that has a pull-out truckle bed, plus an en-suite bathroom. Ask when booking if you want the truckle bed made up. A separate bathroom has a bath with a shower over it, and there is a cloakroom. Because of the cottage's age, the stairs are steep and some doorways are low, so bear that in mind when booking.

The kitchen/diner has an electric oven, grill and hob, a microwave, a fridge/freezer, a washing machine and a dishwasher, with a utility room alongside, and a highchair is provided. The lawned garden, with its furniture, is on the other side of the lane. Off-road parking takes two cars in a space 9.8 metres long, and further parking within 100 metres, at the village hall, is subject to availability. The nearest shop is 2.3 miles away.

Two well-behaved dogs are welcome. Smoking is not allowed, and a good-housekeeping bond is payable. The cottage suits a family or a group of friends, with dogs if they like, who want a rural base and are comfortable with steep stairs.
