The Boat House

The Boat House is a Grade II listed house right on the historic harbour in Weymouth, with views over the water from the dining room and, higher up, from the living room. The kitchen and dining room are on the ground floor, along with a double bedroom at the back and a family bathroom with a slipper-style bath and a separate shower. Six steps lead up to the enclosed rear garden, which has a large patio and a raised seating area.

The first-floor living room has elevated sea and harbour views. Also on that floor are a twin bedroom and a double with a Juliet balcony over the garden. The top floor has the king-size main bedroom, with a flat screen TV, an en-suite shower room and a harbour outlook, and a further double with an en-suite shower. Five bedrooms sleep ten, and there is also a separate shower room.

One small dog is welcome. The house is non-smoking. Parking is for one car, and the town is easy to walk around: a pub and shop are both within 0.1 miles, and the rowing-boat ferry to the beach leaves from 0.2 miles away. A cot is available, along with a dishwasher and a washing machine.

Two free festivals, Fayre in the Square (usually the late May bank holiday weekend) and the Wessex Folk Festival (usually the first weekend of June), close the harbour and Hope Square to traffic. The downstairs bathroom can leak in bad weather, and a good-housekeeping bond is payable. It suits a large family or two families who want a harbourside base and can use the stairs.
